Social Networking and Music

When you hear social network, websites like Facebook, MySpace, SecondLife and many more come to your mind. Social networking sites provide numerous possibilities for an individual: one can find old friends from school again, get to know new people by joining groups and sharing thoughts and ideas with other people in the network.
By using sites like this, it is possible that ones social life becomes much more interesting and intensive than ever.

Being bombarded by invitations of bands on MySpace who want to enhance the loyalty of their audience, I am asking myself, how the music industry could bring out the best of new technologies used as PR tools. Music bands are just one example. In my opinion every organisation, company or individual can try to us virtual networking communities for public relations purposes. One of the opportunities of using these platforms is that target audiences can be addressed in a way that seems to be very close and personal. However, there are as well threats that exist for anyone who is trying to practise PR in the virtual world. For example, how trustworthy can information be that is published in the World Wide Web, since it can be easily manipulated?

Kristina,
Music is the language that all people can understand. Music is the best way to communicate with people. Nowadays, music is being used to communicate with other cultures. In my country –Palestine- we use music to show to people in the other nations how much we suffer under the Israeli occupation.

It's not just music, have you noticed how these websites promote events. Almost all London Nightclub venues promote their events through student reps on facebook and myspace. Its the most reliable sort of PR because your getting it through word of mouth !!

Social network tools such as Hi5, myspace etc, are all easy ways to promote things like music and events. The reason why this is so is due to the very reason that marketers are well aware of the fact that by doing this they will hit the right group of people.

I agree with Priyanka as it is the most reliable sort of PR, because as we all know, word of mouth is the most effective in creating a buzz and achieving the best result!
